About

Hello, I'm Gemma. I am a qualified person-centred counsellor. Flow Counselling Hertfordshire is my private practice on the Hertfordshire-Essex border. Although I am based in Hertfordshire, I currently see clients online from across the UK.

My genuine and warm personality along with my desire to support others led me first to a career in education as a primary school teacher before training to become a counsellor several years ago.

I chose to become a person-centred counsellor as I truly believe that each of us are the experts on ourselves, only needing the right conditions to grow and flourish.

My hope is to provide you with these conditions in my therapy room. This includes offering a welcoming, non-judgemental space where you can be yourself – unfiltered and able to take off the mask you may show to the world.

I will also be my genuine self, and see our time together as a partnership with each of us bringing something unique to the therapeutic relationship. I do not offer advice, instead I wish to walk with you, as you explore what matters to you.

I hold a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. My qualifications, and continuing professional development include the following:

  • CPCAB Certificate in Counselling Studies

  • CPCAB Certificate in Counselling Skills

  • Safeguarding Training

  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Training

  • Supporting Maternal Mental Health

  • Working with Menopausal Clients

  • Working with Sexual Abuse

  • Dealing with Distress: Working with Suicide and Self-Harm

I have also undertaken specialist training (Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling) to allow me to extend my practice to work with clients safely both online and by telephone.

I have experience of working in a variety of settings, including domestic abuse support centres, perinatal depression helplines, and counselling agencies, providing mental health support for a variety of issues including:

  • Abuse

  • Anxiety

  • Adverse Childhood Experiences

  • Depression

  • Domestic Abuse

  • Family Dynamics

  • Grief and Loss

  • Health Concerns and Anxieties

  • Low Self-Esteem

  • Life Transitions

  • Perimenopause/Menopause

  • Perinatal Mental Health

  • Relationships

  • Stress

  • Self-Harm

  • Women’s Health

This list is not exhaustive and sometimes our needs do not always 'fit' into a tick box.  If you are facing obstacles to your wellbeing that are not listed here please get in touch so we can discuss together how I can support you.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP)  and am bound by their Code of Ethics.
